Doug Widell, a graduate out of Boston
College, was a second round pick by the Broncos in 1989. He
became a starter in the 6th game of his rookie year. The Broncos
played in the Super Bowl that year but lost to San Francisco. Doug
was voted to football digest all-rookie team. He led special teams that
year in knockdown blocks. Doug played with the Broncos from
1989-1992 before he was traded to the Packers for the 1993 season. He later
signed as a free agent with the Lions for the 1994-1995 seasons.
His last two seasons in 1996 and 1997 where spent with the Colts.
Doug and his brother Dave made history
by being one of only 5 brothers to play on the same team at the same
position. At the time, they both played for the Broncos during the 90 to
92 seasons. Doug's brother Dave played 11 years in the NFL.
Doug takes great pride in having been
a starter in all 9 seasons of his career as an offensive guard. He
also lists Reggie White as the most dominant defensive player he ever
went against.
Doug and his wife and two children make
their home in Parker, Colorado. He is now a mortgage banker.
